DESPERATE TIMES CALL FOR DESPERATE MEASURES: UNCLOGGING TOILETS 101

Here’s how to unclog a stubborn toilet when your plunger is MIA

A tale as old as time – you’re in an unfamiliar bathroom, with an unfamiliar toilet – water is rising and panic is setting in. Desperately, you look for that little golden beacon of hope – the plunger. PLOT TWIST, the girl you’re on a date with doesn’t own one. You’re trapped… *insert evil laugh*

Instead of escaping out her bathroom window, changing your identity, moving to Mexico and starting a new life. Here are the best ways to unclog a toilet without a plunger.

TIME TO DROP IT LIKE IT’S HOT

We’re talking water that’s hot, but not boiling. Hot water unclogs the toilet by melting away the blockage – Muy Bueno. Boiling water can cause your ceramic toilet bowl to crack – No Bueno. Get a BIG bucket and fill it with not-quite-boiling water. The movement of the water combined with the heat will help remedy the clog.

DISH SOAP – THE UNSUNG HERO

Dish soaps main purpose in life is to breakdown grease and other food waste. Because of this fun little fact, it’s almost as effective in breaking down toilet clogs. Place one cup of dish soap into the toilet bowl and let it sit for roughly thirty to forty minutes. If the water is lowering, a sign that the soap is working, try flushing!

EPSOM SALT – NOT JUST YOUR AVERAGE SLUG KILLER

If you don’t have a plunger you probably don’t have Epsom Salt….However, in the off chance you do pour that magical mixture in the bowl. When Epsom Salt is poured in, it causes a fizzy chemical reaction that can help unclog and clear drains! Wait fifteen minutes, pray to the porcelain gods and then give it a flush!

This is it, your last-ditch effort and it’s not going to be pretty. You see that grimy, old toilet brush over in the corner – grab that baby. Hold the handle and push the brush into the drain hole. Be vigorous, but be careful, because that backsplash is real. You’ve already been traumatized enough – you don’t need the backsplash of clogged toilet water hitting you in the face.

If you find that none of these methods have worked – it’s time to call the professionals. Clarksburg Plumbing is on call morning, noon and night to assist with all of your plumbing needs. Give us a call at 301-865-2223.
