I recently used Clarksburg Plumbing for a condo repair of my main water turnoff valve and my outside hose bib. It required coordination with DC Water and the condo, and Clarksburg was extremely helpful, professional, and patient in the process. They came out a few times to evaluate and troubleshoot the issues, and then ultimately performed/made the repairs. Garrett and John Brown were the first to help, both very kind, knowledgable and highly skilled, and then Pablo (along with apprentice Tevon) made the final repairs. Not only did they do a great job, explaining everything to me in the process and checking after the water was restored to the condo, they also helped out one of the other owners that was having a sudden, luckily minor issue, as well. We had a fire at our house 3-Jul-2025. Our contractor used Clarksburg Plumbing for all of our plumbing needs as we rebuilt our house. Pablo was with us from the beginning until all work on the house was completed a year later. Pablo was the lead plumber from Clarksburg Plumbing. He worked on the plumbing rough-in in December through February this past winter in bitter cold through the end of July 2026 when work was finally completed. Pablo quietly does his work. It’s clear that he is very skilled but he is not arrogant in any way. How long does a sump pump last?
Most sump pumps last about 7 to 10 years, depending on how often they run and how well they are maintained. If yours is in that range or older, it is smart to plan a replacement before it fails during a storm.
Do I really need a battery backup sump pump?
In Maryland, yes, we strongly recommend it. The same storms that fill your pit are the ones that knock out the power, and a primary pump cannot run without electricity. A battery backup keeps pumping through an outage, which is exactly when you need it most.
Submersible or pedestal, which is better?
Submersible pumps sit in the pit, run quieter, and handle more water, which suits finished basements. Pedestal pumps keep the motor above the water, are easier to service, and often last longer. We help you choose based on your pit, your water volume, and your budget.
Why does my sump pump run constantly?
Constant running usually points to a stuck float, a pump that is undersized for your water volume, a failed check valve letting water flow back into the pit, or a very high water table. Running nonstop will burn the motor out, so it is worth checking quickly.
Why will my sump pump not turn on?
The most common causes are a stuck or disconnected float switch, a tripped breaker or unplugged unit, or a failed motor. We diagnose the exact cause and get it pumping again, and we can add a backup so a single failure does not flood the basement.
How often should a sump pump be serviced?
