How it works
How the WSSC Lead Line Program Works
Lead in drinking water is a serious health concern, and WSSC Water is helping homeowners replace lead and galvanized-requiring-replacement (GRR) pipes at no cost. There are two parts to your water service line.
Approved & trained
Clarksburg Plumbing is an approved plumber for this program and has completed WSSC Water's required lead service line replacement training.
WSSC handles this
The Utility-Owned Side
If lead is found on WSSC's portion of the line, WSSC replaces it free through its own contractor. You will be contacted separately for that work.
We handle this
The Customer-Owned Side
This is the portion on your private property. If it is confirmed as lead or GRR, you can have it replaced for free through the program, and that is the part we handle.
The customer-side program is administered by Lead Free Group (LFG), a contractor engaged by WSSC Water. LFG maintains the list of approved plumbers and provides it to participating homeowners. You choose your plumber from that list, sign a contract directly with them, and WSSC coordinates reimbursement so the replacement is free to you.
Important
There is no reimbursement for homeowners who replace their service line outside the WSSC program. To get the free replacement, you must go through the program and select an approved plumber like Clarksburg Plumbing.

Do You Qualify?
You are likely eligible for a free customer-side replacement if all of the following are true.
Your property is in the WSSC Water service area (Montgomery or Prince George's County).
Your customer-owned water service line is confirmed as lead or galvanized requiring replacement (GRR).
You are participating in WSSC's program and have received the approved plumber list from Lead Free Group.
Not sure what your pipe is made of? WSSC's "What's Your Pipe Type?" program helps identify your service line material, and once you are in the program with Clarksburg on your list, we take it from there.
