Plumbing built for how Frederick actually lives

Frederick is Maryland’s second-largest city, and it has been building since 1745. The Frederick Historic District holds buildings from the late 1700s through 1941. Then the city grew outward fast. Worman’s Mill, Spring Ridge, Tuscarora Creek, and Ballenger Run filled in from the 1990s onward.

Inside the City of Frederick, water lines are almost all copper. Copper is good pipe, and it still develops pinhole leaks as it ages and reacts to water chemistry. Sewers are the bigger variable here. Depending on when your block went in, we open up clay, cast iron, Orangeburg, or PVC. Knowing which one is under your yard before we dig is most of the job.

What we see here

Common underground problems in Frederick homes

1

Copper pinhole leaks

City of Frederick homes run copper supply lines. As copper ages, pinholes open up, and water chemistry pushes it along. See slab leak detection and repair.

2

Tree roots in the sewer

Big old trees and trees planted close to the cleanout or tap connection are the usual culprits. Cutter heads first, then jetting with RootX, then a dig if the line is gone.

3

The wet spot that never dries

A puddle in the front yard, a jump in the water bill, or water you can hear running all point underground.

4

Repeat backups from a belly

A low spot in the line holds waste and clogs again and again. A sewer camera inspection finds it, and locating equipment marks it from above ground.

A Frederick plumber who knows the local rules

Frederick runs differently from Montgomery County, and it changes how your job gets scheduled. Here the water utility does the shutoff, not us. Short notice can push a water line job to the next day. Permits are not always issued on the spot the way WSSC permits are, and inspection scheduling runs later in the day than the 11 a.m. WSSC cutoff. We build all of that into the date we give you. The timeline you hear is the timeline you get.

Fast response across Frederick, 21701, 21702, 21703, and 21704
We pull the permits, call Miss Utility, and handle the inspections

Why neighbors choose us

The plumber from right up the road

When you hire Clarksburg Plumbing for your Frederick home, you hire a fourth-generation family company. We have been women-owned and in business since 2008, and we are WBENC certified. New school plumber, old school values. What we are known for is being the second or third plumber on a job. We find what the others could not. We own our leak detection, camera, and locating equipment instead of subbing it out, and you keep a flash drive of your own camera footage.

Underground repairs run $1,500 to $20,000 and up. Depth past ten feet, rocky ground, sidewalks, street work, and tight access are what move that number. Dig estimates are free, so you get a written price before anyone touches your yard. Financing is available through GreenSky. We do not work directly with your insurance company, but we will answer every question they have so you can get reimbursed. Weighing a dig against a no-dig repair? Our guide to trenchless vs traditional sewer repair breaks down the decision.

On warranties: labor is one year on above-ground replacements and 90 days on repairs. Underground excavation carries three years, which Maryland requires of us anyway. Underground water line pipe carries a lifetime warranty, and it transfers if you sell. More on how we work is on the why choose Clarksburg Plumbing page.

Highly recommend John Brown from Clarksburg Plumbing LLC! Yesterday John flushed and descaled our tankless water heater. We've gotten used to waiting and waiting for service people. That's not the case with John. He arrived pleasantly early for both the initial visit (for a no-cost estimate) and for the actual service call. He was personable, knowledgeable, and very patient with our many questions. He really helped us understand the ins and outs of this new-to-us technology of tankless water heaters. We're already recommending him to our neighbors!

I recently used Clarksburg Plumbing for a condo repair of my main water turnoff valve and my outside hose bib. It required coordination with DC Water and the condo, and Clarksburg was extremely helpful, professional, and patient in the process. They came out a few times to evaluate and troubleshoot the issues, and then ultimately performed/made the repairs. Garrett and John Brown were the first to help, both very kind, knowledgable and highly skilled, and then Pablo (along with apprentice Tevon) made the final repairs. Not only did they do a great job, explaining everything to me in the process and checking after the water was restored to the condo, they also helped out one of the other owners that was having a sudden, luckily minor issue, as well. It’s a relief to know that I finally have a plumbing company that I can rely on for any future issues.

We had a fire at our house 3-Jul-2025. Our contractor used Clarksburg Plumbing for all of our plumbing needs as we rebuilt our house. Pablo was with us from the beginning until all work on the house was completed a year later. Pablo was the lead plumber from Clarksburg Plumbing. He worked on the plumbing rough-in in December through February this past winter in bitter cold through the end of July 2026 when work was finally completed. Pablo quietly does his work. It’s clear that he is very skilled but he is not arrogant in any way. Rather, he is very engaging, takes suggestions under consideration and employs them as warranted, and is always kind even when I interrupt his work. Pablo represents Clarksburg Plumbing very well. It was my pleasure working with Pablo.

Properly identified the source of my leak after multiple other plumbers/companies couldn’t figure it out. Were thorough in explaining what they were doing, how they arrived to their determination, and gave advice on how to proceed with next steps that were outside their scope of operations. Thanks Pablo and Tevon

We had a severe blockage in our kitchen sink drain, causing water to back up into both the sink and the dishwasher. Seth and Brady arrived on time, quickly identified the issue, and did an excellent job clearing the kitchen drain. They also fixed the dishwasher drain line, which is now working perfectly. They were professional, efficient, and courteous throughout the process. I highly recommend them to anyone needing plumbing services.

Good questions

Frederick plumbing FAQ

Do you actually serve Frederick, MD?
Yes, every week. Our shop is sixteen miles south in Clarksburg, a straight run up I-270. We have roots in the Frederick area, and we answer 24/7 for emergencies.
Which Frederick neighborhoods do you cover?
All of them, across 21701, 21702, 21703, and 21704. That includes Downtown Frederick, Baker Park, the Golden Mile, Worman's Mill, and Spring Ridge, plus Ballenger Creek, Tuscarora, Westview South, Clover Hill, and Amber Meadows.
Who shuts the water off for a water line replacement in Frederick?
The water utility does, not us. That is different from Montgomery County, where we are allowed to shut it off ourselves. Short notice can push your job to the next day, so we schedule the shutoff before we schedule the crew.
Do I need a permit for underground sewer or water line work?
Yes, and Maryland only allows a licensed master plumber to do that work. Any underground sewer or water line job requires a permit. We pull it, call Miss Utility, and meet the inspector. Permits here are not always instant, so we build that into your date.
My Frederick home has copper pipes. Why do they keep leaking?
Copper develops pinhole leaks as it ages, and water chemistry accelerates it. City of Frederick homes are almost all copper, so we see this constantly. We can patch the section or repipe, and we will tell you honestly which one is the smarter spend.
What does an underground sewer or water line repair cost in Frederick?
The honest range is $1,500 to more than $20,000. Depth past ten feet, rock, sidewalks, street work, and access drive it. Dig estimates are free and the price is written down before we start. Financing is available through GreenSky.
Do I actually need leak detection, or can you just quote the repair?
Often you do not need it. Our crews have seen enough Frederick line failures to quote the repair without charging you for detection first. Detection earns its cost on a long commercial run under a parking lot or roadway, where only a section then gets dug.
How fast can you get to me in Frederick?
Most Frederick addresses we reach the same day, and faster for a true emergency. A real person on our own office team answers 24/7 and sends a stocked truck up I-270.
